Madagascar

Join me on a tour through though Madagascar- a unique country where Africa meets Asia. A country rich in wildlife, culture and nice sandy beaches.

Since first visiting Madagascar in 2017 it has been a country where I have always wanted to come back. Join me on a 13 day trip and experience the best sides of the country!

DAY 1 Pickup at airport and transfer to hotel (Lemur Hostel, or similar)

Planned activities: This day is arrival day, so there is no activities planned other than a welcome meeting at the reception at 18 o´clock and an included welcome dinner. Should you arrive after this time then you will be explained everything upon arrival, or by a note in the hotel reception if after midnight.

Optional activities: museums, monuments, parks. Different prices, but all cheap

Accommodation: Lemur Hostel- a central hotel where it is easy meeting other travelers.

Travel time: Expect to spend one hour on the transfer to the city. The driver will be avaiting you with a sign with your name on it.

 

DAY 2: exploring Tanna

Planned activities: Museums, monuments, parks and getting a good introduction of the local culture and way of life before setting off to more rural areas

Optional activities: museums, monuments, parks. Different prices, but all cheap

Accommodation: Lemur Hostel- a central hostel where it is easy meeting other travelers.

 

DAY 3: Transfer to Andasibe

Planned activities: Included night safari, spotting nocturnal animals

Optional activities: Andasibe is small and there is not much more to do than walking around spotting animals, relaxing and using the wifi.

Accommodation: Maries Guesthouse. Basic, but clean double rooms with cold water showers. Wifi in room and in restaurant.

Travel time: 135km in private bus. Expect 3,5 hours including stops en route

 

DAY 4: Andasibe and transfer to Antsirabe

Planned activities: Included morning safari spotting lemurs, cameleons and idris.

Optional activities:

Accommodation: Maries Guesthouse. Basic, but clean double rooms with cold water showers. Wifi in room and in restaurant.

Travel time: 290km in private bus. Expect 6 hours including stops en route

 

DAY 5: Antsirabe

Planned activities: Included bike trip to Lake Tritriva. Opt for a swim or just enjoy the peaceful setting and beautiful scenery.

Optional activities: Museums, spending time on your own in the city

Accommodation: Chez Billy. Doorms and double rooms. Great hangout bar.

Travel time: Yay, no driving today!

 

DAY 6: Transfer to Miandrivazo

Planned activities: Two hour walking tour in the city, exploring the market and the colonial style architecture

Optional activities: Exploring on your own if prefered until we meet at the taxi brousse (bus) station at noon.

Accommodation: Arc en Ciel Hotel. Most expensive option in town. Clean and comfortable 4 man rooms (two king size beds for share, or one each depending on availablity). Wifi in rooms and restaurant.

Travel time: 225km. Expect 5 hours in private bus.

 

DAY 7: Kayaking on the Tsirihibina River

Planned activities: Drifting on the river viewing the landscape, reading books, listeing to music, taking pictures, chatting or dozing off. Camping by a nearby village, greating the chief and learning about rural way of life in Madagascar.

Accommodation: Camping in twin share tents on the river bank sand, next to a village.

Travel time: As far as we get. Most likely we will start after breakfast around 7, eat lunch in the boats and make camp around sunset.

 

DAY 8: Kayaking on the Tsirihibina River

Planned activities: Drifting on the river viewing the landscape, reading books, listeing to music, taking pictures, chatting or dozing off. Stopping for a swim at the Anosinampela Waterfall

Accommodation: Camping in twin share tents on the river bank sand, next to the Anosinampela waterfall

Travel time: As far as we get. Most likely we will start after breakfast around 7, eat lunch in the boats and make camp around sunset.

 

DAY 9: Kayaking on the Tsirihibina River and transfer to Beobab Allé

Planned activities: Approximately one or two hours of canoeing down the Tsirihibina River before arriving in Antsiraraka Village where we will have to walk and ride ox carts through muddy paths before we get to the main road where 4×4 vehichles are waiting for us.

Accommodation: Camping under the starsky next to the Beobab Alley information office with 24/7 security.

Travel time: 115km. Most likely more than 6 hours due to poor road conditions

 

DAY 10: Beobab Alley and transfer to Morondava

Planned activities: Watching the sunrive at Beobab Alley. Relaxing at the beach

Optional activities: Listen to live reaggae music at Chez Jean de Rasta (free)

Accommodation: Hotel Katrafay. Simple beach bungalows with the friendliest owners who offer a welcome beer upon arrival.

Travel time: 20km. 20 minutes by bicycle taxi and then 20 minutes with bus

 

 

DAY 11: Free day in Morondava

Planned activities: Relaxing in a hammock by the beach

Optional activities: Listen to live reaggae music at Chez Jean de Rasta (free)

Accommodation: Hotel Katrafay. Simple beach bungalows with the friendliest owners who offer a welcome beer upon arrival.

 

DAY 12: Transfer to Antananarivo

Planned activities: Leaving at 4 am and will arrive approx at 17 in Antananarivo

Optional activities: Full day of driving, entertainment as per your own wish

Accommodation: Lemur hostel- a central hostel where it is easy meeting other travelers.

Travel time: 20km. 20 minutes by bicycle taxi and then 20 minutes with bus

 

DAY 13: exploring Tanna

Planned activities: Sleep in, get ready for departure. No planned activities

Optional activities: museums, monuments, parks. Different prices, but all cheap

Accommodation: Tour ends. No accommodation included, but you are free to stay with me in Tanna as long as you want. or join me on my onwards adventures.
