Venezuela is a dangerous country to travel on your own, but if you have a trusted and good guide you can explore the highest waterfall in the World, eat cheap and good streetfood and hike in unique mountain landscape. Join me on a 15 day tour of this beautiful country! The price of the tour covers all your expenses in the country.*

Day 1: Arrival in Caracas

Arrive at any time and you will get picked up at the airport. It is reccommended to pick a flight arriving at day time as it is less safe traveling at night in Venezuela.

Optional activities: museums, monuments, parks. Different prices, but all cheap.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

Travel time: Its a 30kilometer drive from the airport to the city center.

 

Day 2: Exploring Caracas

Today we will get up early to have breakfast and then start a quick briefing about safety and customs in Venezuela. We will then take the metro to the city center where we will try local specialities like “arepas” cakes with a piece of chese on top and other Venezuelan specialities. These meals are included in the tour price.

Optional activities: museums, monuments, parks. Different prices, but all cheap.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

Travel time: Just short trips with the metro, but put on some good shoes to do a lot of walking!

Day 3: Transfer to Ciudad Bolivar

Today there are no planned activities. We will take a morning bus to a city called Ciudad Bolivar where we will have an included dinner together and then a quiet evening to charge up for another long bus ride the next day. If we manage to get flight tickets (very likely) we will fly to Puerto Ordaz and spend the day there before taking the bus to Santa Elena.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

Travel time: 8-12 hours in a bus or less than 1 hour in a plane

 

Day 4: Transfer to Santa Elena

Today there are no planned activities. We will take a morning bus to a city called Santa Elena where we will have an included dinner together and then a quiet evening to charge up for the hike starting next day.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

Travel time: 9-12 hours in a bus

 

Day 5: Santa Elena- Parai Tepui- Tek River

We will drive for about 2 hours from Santa Elena de Uairen to Parai Tepuy (1600 above sea level) to hike nearly 5 hours through open savannah before reaching the Kukenan Camp at a height of 1050m. You will cross two rivers which can be difficult when the Kukenan grows after rainfall. Our guide and porters will set up the camp for a nice dinner in the foothill of Roraima. (5 hours hiking, all meals).

Accommodation: Camping at the Tek river camp.

Travel time: From Santa Elena, it’s about a two-hour drive to the small Indian village of Parai Tepui, or Paraitepui, where we will pay the (included) entrance fee to climb the tepui. Porters will be arranged if neccessary, but limited to 15 kilos each.

 

Day 6: Tek Camp, savannah and then Roraima Base camp

Today we will hike 9kms to the base camp of Roraima located at 1850 meters above the sea level including a challenging walk of around two hours. Cross lowland savannah and beautiful landscapes covered with orchids and fascinating plant life and enjoy spectacular views of the walls of the mountain before taking a refreshing swim in the river nearby the camp. (about 5 hours hiking, all meals).

Accommodation: Camping at the Roraima Base camp.

 

Day 7: Roraima Base Camp to the Top

We will have a steep hike for about 3 hours (1,5 kms) through the jungle as we reach the top of The Lost World at 2700m. Afterwards, we will be exhausted and amazed by the beauty and the overwhelming number of ferns, bromeliads and other rare plants. The sheer wall of Roraima is ahead, and its tough climb to the summit at 2700m. The path continues through jungle and on to the plateau, where there is time to explore with fascinating views of interesting rock shapes as result of 2 Billion years of erosion. The prehistoric and unusual plants up here are a wonder to behold. Some of the surface looks like walking on the moon and the views from the Summit piercing through the fog are unbelievable.

Accommodation: Our tents will be set up in natural caves for 2 nights, providing protection from the frequent mists and showers on top.

 

Day 8: Exploring the top of Roraima

We will explore the fantasy land atop Roraima whose massive summit is 45 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide. We will visit the Crystal Valley where we find strange and beautiful quartz rocks, we will also see the Gran Sabana and Kukenan Tepui window, enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural jacuzzi with red, sand and golden colors on its waters. We will relax and get ready for the descend of 7 hours. Overnight in tents set in a natural cavity.

Accommodation: Camping in natural caves, same as the day before

 

Day 9: Roraima top to Tek River Camp

Today we will hike down 10,5 kms for about 7 hours to Tek river enjoying some of the last views of the walls of Roraima.

Accommodation: Camping at Tek River Camp

 

Day 10: Tek River- Santa Elena

We will walk about 4 hours to Parai Tepuy where will be collected to get driven back to Santa Elena. Dinner and overnight in a comfortable posada with bedrooms and private bathroom.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

 

Day 11: Santa Elena to Caracas

Today we will take the direct bus from Santa Elena to Caracas. Brace yourself for the longest bus trip of your life, but we will then have more time for the beaches later.

Optional activities: Read books, play cards and watch tv shows on your smartphones.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

Travel time: 22 hours with only short bathroom breaks and food breaks in between. If we manage to get flight tickets (very likely) from Puerto Ordaz the travel time will be considerably shorter.

 

Day 12: Islas Tortugas

We will go to a hidden gem in the Caribbean called Isla Tortuga.

Optional activities: Snorkle, swim and relax on some of the Worlds most beautiful beaches. Spot dolphins and turtles on the way.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel on Isla Tortuga.

Travel time: 3 hours on a speedboat and you will arrive at the paradise islands.

 

Day 12: Islas Tortugas to Caracas

We will return to Caracas only to have a good bye dinner and night in the capital before everyone is free to depart or join me on my onwards adventures in Venezuela for free.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in Caracas.

Travel time: 3 hours on a speedboat and you will arrive at the paradise islands.

 

Day 15: Departure day from Caracas

Optional activities: museums, monuments, parks. Different prices, but all cheap.

Accommodation: Simple but safe hotel in the city.

Travel time: Just short trips with the metro, but put on some good shoes to do a lot of walking!

 

Day 15: Departure day from Caracas

Today there are no planned activities. You will have an included transfer to the airport or join me on my onwards travels in this incredible country.

Accommodation: No included accommodation, but this can be arranged if you wish to depart on another day.

Travel time: 30km ride to the airport from Caracas city center.
